  AUXLAMS Course - (New)

Additional end of fiscal year funding has opened the opportunity for additional leadership and management training in the Coast Guard Auxiliary national level courses.  We have applied for and been approved to have an AUXLAMS course in our district.

This course is scheduled for the second weekend in August, 8-10 August 2008 at TRACEN Yorktown.

The course schedule is:

Friday: 8 Aug 08 1800-2200

Saturday: 9 Aug 08 0800-1700

Sunday: 10 Aug 08 0800-1300

The classroom assignment at TRACEN Yorktown will be forwarded to those Auxiliarists enrolled as students in this AUXLAMS course.  If enrolled, students should make their own berthing requests by calling Cain Hall Reservations at 757-856-2378 between the hours of 0800-1630 Monday-Friday.

We are authorized to have 30 students.  Auxiliarists wanting to attend must complete and submit an ANSC Form 7059 Short Term Training Request (CG Form 5223) through the Flotilla Commander to DIRAUX, 5th District (SR) by 1 May 2008.  The short suspense time is caused by the requirement to obligate the required funds by 15 May 2008.

Specialty Course Weekend

The District Specialty Course Weekend event is held twice a year at TRACEN Yorktown, in the spring and fall and is available to all members. Unless indicated otherwise, free birthing is provided to those who register early. Messing is available at a low cost and there are restaurants in the area for those who would prefer to eat out. You must register for this event. If accepted, class materials will be provided prior to the start date. It is important that you register early if you plan to take advantage of the birthing facilities and to ensure you receive the training materials on time.

Additional information and schedule will be posted here when available.

Leadership Academy Program

The Leadership Academy program has been revised. The previous academy has served the District well, but the manner in which the Auxiliary does business has changed and with this change, the duties and responsibilities at all levels of Auxiliary leadership must keep pace. The smooth, effective ways of daily operations require all leaders to be equipped with the skills to achieve success. At all levels within the organization, leaders must be prepared to take on the administrative responsibilities of their position. To accomplish this, a direct "How To" approach is required to prepare Auxiliary members for leadership roles. The new Academy's approach will provide this style of instruction along with other skill enhancements to assist the leaders in dealing with the volunteer member.

Additional information and schedule will be posted here when available.

Prevention Weekend
The 5th District Southern Region Prevention Weekend will be held on 17 March, 2006 at TRACEN, Yorktown. Two Marine Safety (MS) and Personal Qualification Standard (PQS) courses will be offered.

Additional information and schedule will be posted here when available.
